WSL Surf 101: Backside Surfing

WSL Surf 101 breaks down the basics of surfing for a better understanding of the Championship Tour. This episode features Jessi Miley-Dyer, Head of Competition for the World Surf League, talking about "Backside Surfing". What is backside surfing? Backside or backhand surfing is when your back is to the face of the wave and you're looking over your lead shoulder while surfing. This means you have a restricted field of view and less visual information to work with while surfing. And you're also driving off your heels instead of your toes, which sets up a different method to riding the wave. Be it powerful barrels or performance canvases, over the years we've seen the Tour elite master their approach. #WSL Subscribe to the WSL for more action: https://goo.gl/VllRuj Watch all the latest surfing action of the world's best surfers in the world's best waves.
