Unstoppable CT power overwhelms Challenger Series elite alongside rising stars I 805 Post Show Day 3

A brand new scale was laid down in force from familiar CT stars amid Challenger Series hopefuls at the Lexus US Open of Surfing Presented by Pacifico. The Challenger Series elite got a real taste of what the CT can be like with Griffin Colapinto, Cole Houshmand, Crosby Colapinto, and Alan Cleland Jr. all laying down ridiculous showings in the Huntington Beach Pier arena. Houshmand’s ridiculous power surfing elevated performances to a 16.60 heat total, featuring another event-best single-wave score of an 8.77. From San Clemente’s dominance, including the Hayden Rodgers airshow, to previous US Open of Surfing victors representing Southern California in the form of Levi Slawson and Kanoa Igarashi, homecourt advantage was in full effect. Plus, Joel Vaughan found another early spark on the Challengers to post a 7.83 with his aerial antics to reinforce the CT caliber. But, the Brazilians aren’t going quietly, with CTer Mateus Herdy, recent runner-up in Ballito Wessley Dantas, and former CTer Deivid Silva on the prowl and pushing early success. Coleman, Gall crowned Lexus USOS Longboard champs, Challenger women dig in I 805 Post Show Day 4

Stand up Southern California! Avalon Gall and Tommy Coleman provided the goods to take home the 2026 Lexus US Open of Surfing Presented by Pacifico Longboard titles ahead of the Challenger Series getting underway. It was a day of celebration for longboarding, with wildcard wonder Coleman defying all the odds against the world’s best, culminating in a win over Australia’s standout Declan Wyton, after fellow Californian, Gall, made history with back-to-back US Open of Surfing Longboard wins against Japan’s breakthrough Hiroka Yoshikawa. For Gall, this marks her return atop the LT rankings to start the 2026/2027 Longboard Title race, while Coleman’s historic run won’t count for points toward the rankings, and Wyton leaves Huntington Beach ranked No. 1. Now, the world’s best longboarders await to resume their Title race at the Bioglan Bells Beach Longboard Classic, beginning December 2 - 6 at the legendary venue of Bells Beach, Australia. Then, Challenger Series action officially got underway to reignite the Championship Tour qualification race in Huntington Beach, and the swell provided plenty of fireworks. 2023 World Junior Champion held firm with the Round of 48’s best performance, with Ella McCaffray advancing after posting an excellent 8.50. McCaffray’s fellow Southern Californians kept the success rolling with Eden Walla and Bailey Turner taking early heat wins in home waters to set up a stacked Round of 32. The Longboard Tour contenders fought for their Lexus US Open of Surfing Presented by Pacifico survival with heavy early eliminations dealt. The Philippines were loud and proud to end Day 2 with Jomarie Ebueza taking control to lock in for a massive Round of 16 showing. But, it was all about the women taking over HB to start a pivotal day, and Waikiki’s perennial standouts, Kelis Kaleopa’a and Sophia Culhane, delivered brilliance ahead of Malia Ilagan locking in more US Open of Surfing success of her own to keep their 2026 chase thriving. Culhane’s 7.67 held as the women’s top single-wave score before a bit of history was made as Lia Diaz, Costa Rica’s first-ever LT qualifier, earned a massive heat win over Sive Jarrard to take her country to the Round of 16 in her rookie start. Then, the men’s Elimination Round provided fireworks with Southern California duo Jack Van Wagoner and Tommy Coleman taking down the Waikiki Longboard Title threat mainstays Kai Sallas and John Michael Van Hohenstein in their respective bouts. But, Kaniela Stewart got one back for the Waikiki disrupters to bounce back toward a second US Open of Surfing title.
