The History Of Trestles From We Are One Ocean Coalition Partners

In honor of the #RipCurlWSLFinals at Trestles this week, we want to take a moment to remember the history of this world-famous surf break with our friends and #WeAreOneOcean coalition partners Surfrider Foundation, San Onofre Parks Foundation and Adelia Sandoval. Trestles—which is in the village site known as Panhe, on the homeland of the Acjachemen nation—encompasses a beautiful stretch of land and ocean. This iconic landmark was threatened by a six lane private toll road that would have destroyed the park, polluted the water, and gutted the watershed that provides the sand and cobble which shape the pristine waves. After 15 years of relentless work by thousands of dedicated activists, Trestles is now permanently protected, thanks to a bill signed into law in California that bans any future roads in the state park. Despite this monumental victory—sea level rise, pollution, and coastal development continue to threaten this amazing natural treasure. We recognize the reality that the coast is never saved, it is always being saved. Getting involved in protecting and conserving the ocean is critical for us today and for future generations. Tell us what you are doing to protect our ocean by posting on social media with the hashtag #WeAreOneOcean and tagging WSL and WSL PURE in your posts. #RipCurlWSLFinals #SaveTrestles #WeAreOneOcean @ripcurl_usa @wsl Subscribe to the WSL for more action: https://goo.gl/VllRuj Watch all the latest surfing action of the world's best surfers in the world's best waves.
