Francisca Veselko Claims Historic World Junior Title, First Portuguese Women’s Champion

In defiant form, the 19-year-old overpowered a stacked Finals Day field to claim Portugal's first-ever Women's World Junior Title and her spot onto the 2023 Challenger Series where she'll have a chance to qualify for the Championship Tour (CT). The SAMBAZON World Junior Championships hosted by Best Western showcase the most talented 20-and-under surfers in the sport. Winning the event not only gets these young stars onto the Challenger Series and one step away from the Championship Tour, but also adds them to a proud history of past champions. From World Champions Andy Irons and Gabriel Medina to tour stalwarts Sally Fitzgibbons and Jordy Smith, many of those with a World Junior title have gone on to become the world’s best surfers.
