After being cut from the Championship Tour, Andy Irons clawed his way back and faced his hero Sunny Garcia in an all-Hawaiian final at Bells Beach. With explosive surfing and unmatched hunger, Irons rang his first Bell - launching a 2002 season that would end in his first of three consecutive world titles. This is the beginning of the AI dynasty, with style that is still trying to be matched on today's tour. 2026 marks 50 Years of the World Tour, a milestone not just for our global sport but for surf culture and our collective histories. Since the inaugural men's championship in 1976 and the crowning of the first female World Champion in 1977, World Tour surfers continue to push and redefine what's possible in our sport.
